Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Circleville, OH. – (3/21/2015) – The Chatham University softball team played a stellar double-header against the Ohio Christian University (NCCAA), but to no avail. The Trailblazers took both games, the first by a narrow margin of 7-5 and the second by a score of 8-1. The Cougars played very well in both games, with a few players standing out at the plate.
In the first game of the day, Ohio Christian scored three runs in the first inning to take the lead but Chatham rallied as a team to catch up, with all five of Chatham's runs coming from different batters. First year
Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, MN; 2B) batted Gallaway home in the second inning to start Chatham's scoring. However, Chatham's hard work and a big fifth inning weren't quite enough and the Trailblazers pulled ahead in the seventh inning to take the game.
The Trailblazers started the second game off strong and kept the pressure on, consistently scoring for the rest of the game. Senior
Elizabeth Deckelman (Baltimore, MD; P/SS) batted junior
Erika Bronk (Rochester, NY; CF) home in the third inning for Chatham's single run.
First years Gallaway and
Rachel Oplinger (C) both played great games, both going two for four in game one. Oplinger also earned ten putouts on the day; Gallaway earned fourteen putouts, one RBI, and went two for three at the plate in game two. Deckelman also had a good day, going two for five at the plate and had two RBIs on the day.
Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, PA; P/1B) pitched well, giving up seven earned runs on thirteen hits in the first game and 9 runs in the second game (7 earned). Pehrson faced 31 batters the first game, and 21 in the second, throwing 147 and 96 pitches respectively. Pehrson struck out seven in the first game, and two in the next for a total of 9 strikeouts.
The Cougars return to Varsity Field on Sunday March 22, 2015 to face Penn State Beaver in a non-conference matchup.
