STEUBENVILLE, OH - Talk about knowing how to wrap up regular season road games! The Chatham Softball team (14-24, 8-12 PAC) crossed the boarder into Ohio today for one last road trip as they took on the Franciscan Barons (4-30, 2-18 PAC). The Cougars would sweep the Barons away as they took game one 10-0 in just six innings, followed by a game two win of 10-0 in just five innings.
Game one would be quiet for both teams in the first two innings, but in the third inning the Cougars were ready to go. Sophomore
Kyla Milne would kick things off with her first home run of the season and put the Cougars up 1-0. Senior
Kayleen Garcia would then sacrifice herself allowing freshman
Gaby McTavish to make the score 2-0. Senior
Victoria Murren would add two more RBIs as she doubled bringing home freshman
Madi Gorney and fellow senior
Chelsea Stabile. Freshman
Tori Cavanaugh would earn and RBI of her own when she singled, bringing home Murren. In the fourth, the Cougars didn't stop adding to the total. McTavish would sacrifice herself allowing Milne to score, followed by a Garcia single allowing Stabile to score and make it 7-0. The Cougars would have one last push in the sixth inning when Stabile scored from Murren, Gorney scored on an error, and sophomore
Anna Borst brought home Murren.
Murren would add another completed game and shutout to her stats today as she was on the mound for the Cougars. While being on the mound for six innings, she allowed just four hits and struck out five batters.
The Cougars would waste no time getting things started in game two. Gorney would kick things off with a double in the first inning allowing Stabile to score first run of the game, and only run of the inning. Gorney's lone double would allow her to break the individual batting record for doubles hit in a season and now set it at 13! The second inning would be prove to be exciting for the Cougars as they scored their other nine runs in this inning. Senior
Cloe Lopez would score off a single from McTavish, freshman
Michele Harper and McTavish would walk their way around the bases and make it all the way back home, senior
Olivia Harris scored off a wild pitch, Stabile added one more to the tally, Garcia and Gorney scored off of sophomore
Hannah Uhrinek's double, and to finish things off Uhrinek and Murren scored off Harris's single.
With the Cougars' bats going quiet after the second inning, they left it up to Uhrinek and freshman
Caytlin Redeye in the circle and the defense to finish things off. Uhrinek would pitch for four innings, allowing no hits or runs and striking out seven batters. Redeye would come in for the last inning to finish things off striking out three batters.
The Cougars are back in action this Sunday, April 26th, when they return to historic West Field for not only their final regular season doubleheader against Thiel, but also an opportunity to celebrate their Seniors! First pitch times are set for 1PM & 3PM.
