Chatham Splits with Westminster

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, PA – Chatham University collected 21 total hits in a split with visiting Westminster College on Sunday.  Westminster won game one 6-1, and Chatham took game two 9-4.  The Titans move to 11-9 overall and 1-3 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play.  Chatham improves to 6-7 overall (2-4 PAC).
 
In the opener, Westminster went ahead 6-0 before a Leigha Pehrson RBI scored Elizabeth Deckelman in the sixth inning.  Deckelman and Gina Abrego each went 2-3 from the plate in the game, while Ashley Lamb and Jenn Stefano each had one hit.
 
In game two, Chatham jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first.  Anne Marie Brnardic had an RBI single and Elizabeth Doman drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.  Westminster answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to go up 4-3.
 
Chatham then erupted for five runs in the fifth to break the game open.  Abrego scored Doman with an RBI single, then later scored on a double steal.  Erika Martin and Stefano also had RBI singles, and Brnardic collected an RBI on a fielder's choice.  The Cougars added one run in the seventh on an RBI single by Lamb.
 
Pehrson picked up the win on the mound, throwing all seven innings, allowing seven hits, and striking out one.  Abrego went 3-5, while Doman, Lamb, Stefano, and Martin each collected two hits.
 
Chatham continues PAC play on Wednesday, April 9, when they host Washington & Jefferson College.
