Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA – The Chatham University softball team opened the 2014 season with a 7-3 setback at home to Carlow University.

Carlow (7-4) took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning thanks to a two-RBI single by Jenna Grogan and an RBI-double by Natalie Bashada. The Celtics added two more runs in the third inning to go ahead 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jenn Stefano stole home to put Chatham (1-0) on the board. A Leigha Pehrson RBI-single, followed by a Jessica Milroy RBI-double brought the Cougars within two at 5-3.

Carlow then added one run in both sixth and seventh innings to win 7-3.

Pehrson went 2-3 at the plate and threw all seven innings on the mound for Chatham. She allowed eight hits and struck out four. Erika Martin and Milroy each went 1-3, and Gina Abrego went 1-2 at the plate.

For Carlow, Bashada, Grogan, and Kenzie Young each recorded two hits.

Chatham returns to action on Sunday, March 23, when they travel to La Roche College. First game of the doubleheader is set for 1:00pm.
