Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, PA- The Chatham University Softball team traded wins with non-conference match-up La Roche College on their home field Monday night. After losing game one by a close score of 5-4, the Cougars roared back to win the nightcap by a score of 9-3. Chatham improves to 7-15 overall.
In game one, La Roche was first on the scoreboard with a run in the second inning. Chatham quickly answered, outscoring the Redhawks by four total runs throughout the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
Leigha Pehrson led with two runs, going 2-2 at the plate.
Elise Zavadak and
Natalie Vazquez recorded one run each. The Cougars tallied a triple play to end the sixth inning. La Roche fought back, recording four runs in the seventh inning to secure the win.
Pehrson took the loss in the circle, giving up seven hits while striking out four.
In the nightcap, the Cougars quickly rebounded as
Elizabeth Doman recorded the first run of the game in the top of the first. La Roche remained scoreless until the third inning, while Chatham continued to gain runs from
Jenn Stefano, Doman, Vazquez,
Olivia Traini, and Deckelman. Stefano finished the game with three runs and an RBI single. Doman and Traini each grabbed two runs, while Traini also tallied three RBI.
Traini took the win, giving up eight hits with one strike out.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, April 10 for a home
doubleheader against the University of Pitt-Greensburg. Game times are set for 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
