Cougars Suffer Back-to-Back Losses From Titans

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - APRIL 15th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Softball team hosted the Titans from Westminster College yesterday afternoon in a 2 game double-header up on Varsity Field. The Cougars still searching for their first conference win of the season would lose both games to the Titans by scores of 12-1 and 9-1. Westminster improved to 9-0 in PAC conference play, while the Cougars dropped to an overall record of 2-17, and are now 0-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

In Game 1 that started right around 3:30 p.m., Chatham would find themselves in a hole early when Westminster would score 5 runs in the first two innings of play. From there things did not get much better for the Cougars due to the 7 run inning Westminster would put up in the top of the fourth inning. Chatham would manage to get a run come across home plate in the bottom of the fourth due to a Katelyn Gonos (Kent, Ohio / Theodore Roosevelt) single to center field. Gonos would drive in Sophomore Rachel Oplinger (Indian Head, Pa. / Connellsville Area). Both teams would go scoreless in the fifth inning, and Westminster would go on to victory by a final score of 12-1. Chatham would only be able to manage 4 hits in the game.

Game 2 would begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game 1. Chatham would take an early first inning lead when First Year Kylee Sonson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) would single driving in fellow First Year Samantha Crilley (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley). Unfortunately, that would be the only run scored by Chatham in this game. Westminster would put 4 runs on the board in the top of the second inning, and then 5 more in the top of the fifth to take a 9-1 lead. Chatham once again would only be able to have four hits in the game.

The Cougars have a quick turn around, and will be back on the field this Saturday, April 16th when they host the President's from Washington and Jefferson College. Chatham will also play two more home games this Sunday, April 17th, when they welcome the Saints from Thomas More. All in all, Chatham will play six games in just four days. The first pitch on Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m.
