Martin And Murren Earn All-PAC Honors

TRAFFORD, Pa. - Tuesday night featured the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Selection Show, which announced All-PAC teams and yearly award winners for the 2024 Softball season.

Two players from Chatham Softball earned selections: Sophomore Irene Martin was picked to the All-PAC First Team while fellow Sophomore Victoria Murren picked up her second straight honorable mention.

Martin enjoyed a stellar first year in the purple and white in which she led the team in batting average (.341), homeruns (4), and total bases (49). A Morgan State transfer, Martin bounced back and forth between third base and shortstop until she firmly locked up shortstop halfway through the season. All season long Martin made difficult plays look routine. Martin had committed seven errors after the Cougars' doubleheader vs Saint Vincent but only committed three more the last month of the season. Martin's season was highlighted particularly by two performances. She went 3-4 with a homerun and five RBIs vs Allegheny and a 6-8 performance versus Grove City. Martin's four homeruns is tied with four other players and good enough for fourth place in the PAC. Martin wraps up her first season as a Cougar with All-PAC First Team Honors and gives first year head coach Courtney Orr her first player to achieve first team honors.

Murren led the PAC in innings pitched (143.2) and strikeouts (135). She had three starts where she collected double digit strikeouts. During the year, Murren became the school's all-time strikeout leader after reaching 250 strikeouts during their season finale versus Thiel. The sophomore went 8-21 on the mound and the eighth win and the 143 innings pitched are Chatham Softball school records. Murren's best outing of the season was her complete-game, 13 strikeout performance in the Cougars win over Geneva 8-1. Murren made more history with the 13 K's as they're a new personal record and also a school record.

The Sophomore duo will look to be a big part of the program going forward. Head Coach Courtney Orr wraps up her first season at the helm as she is quite eager to get her first full recruiting class on campus in the fall of 2024. Orr is looking to revamp the roster as she currently has 14 recruits coming in from all over the country for the 2025 softball season.
