Softball Splits Conference Matchup with Grove City

GROVE CITY, PA - It would be another 1-1 day for Chatham Softball (11-21, 5-9 PAC) as they headed North to take on the Grove City Wolverines (15-9, 7-7 PAC). Game one would be a toughly battled 5-4 loss for the Cougars, but they would bounce back in game two and win 13-1.

The Wolverines would take an early lead in game one as they scored all of their runs in the first inning. The Cougars would go on to fight the rest of the game. Freshman Madi Gorney would kick things off in the third inning when she singled to left center allowing fellow freshman Gaby McTavish to score. Freshman Michele Harper would score the next run as made it home on a wild pitch. Senior Kaylenn Garcia would earn herself two RBIs as she singled allowing Gorney to score as well as sophomore Anna Borst.

A handful of Cougars would be in the circle today. Senior Victoria Murren would start, and fellow senior Sheaden Berkson would follow and pitch for 2.2 innings. The two of them would allow just seven hits combined. Freshman Caytlin Redeye would finish out in the circle for the last three innings. She would allow just four hits and strikeout one batter.

In game two, the Cougars would show their fighting attitude as they took the lead in the first inning. Murren would hit a single bringing in Borst and McTavish. Senior Olivia Harris would then single in the second to bring sophomore Josie Underdonk home. The Cougars would score five runs in the third inning. Garcia singled bringing in Gorney, Underdonk singled bringing in Garcia, Harris singled bringing in Underdonk and Murren, and McTavish would sacrifice herself to allow senior Chelsea Stabile to score. There would be a break in the fourth inning, but the fifth inning picked things right back up. A bases loaded walk would allow sophomore Hannah Uhrinek to score. Senior Cloe Lopez would single allowing Stabile and Underdonk to score. Harris would score on a fielding error, and freshman Chloe Pagliarini would finish off the scoring. Uhrinek would also join the record books as she had two doubles in the game which would tie the individual single game double record.

Uhrinek would also have an impressive day on the mound for the Cougars as she pitched a complete game and secured the win. She would allow just eight hits, one run, and strike out six batters during the game.

The Cougars are back in action this Wednesday, April 15th, when they hit the road again to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats at 3:30PM and 5:30PM.
