PITTSBURGH, PA - It would be an unfortunate night for Chatham Softball (10-20, 4-8 PAC) as they would be defeated by Waynesburg (21-9, 9-5 PAC) 12-1 and 6-3.
Game one would be a short one for the Cougars and Yellow Jackets as it would be just five innings. While Waynesburg took control of the offense for the first four innings, the Cougars would show that they never give. Sophomore
Hannah Uhrinek would single to left field allowing freshman
Madi Gorney to score their only run in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Gaby Mctavish would go 2-for-3 at the plate trying to help the Cougars get more on the board.
In the circle for the Cougars would be a handful of individuals. Senior
Victoria Murren would start out and throw for two innings allowing six hits. Fellow senior
Sheaden Berkson would then step in for just 0.1 innings, allowing three hits. To close the game out, sophomore
Josie Underdonk would take over for 2.2 innings allowing three hits and striking out two batters.
The Cougars would get the bats swinging in game two as they would take the lead for a minute before eventually being defeated. Waynesburg would take the lead after just the first inning, but in the third inning the Cougars would go up 3-2. McTavish kicked things off with a double which allowed senior
Chelsea Stabile to come home and get on the board. Senior Oliva Harris would then allow McTavish to score when she hit a single. To finish off scoring for the Cougars was senior
Kayleen Garcia who singled to right field allowing Harris to come back home just one play later.
On the mound this time around was Uhrinek for 5.2 innings who would strike out just one batter. Underdonk would come back in to finish the game for 1.1 innings allowing just one hit.
The Cougars are back in action this Monday, April 13th, when they head North to take on Grove City at 3PM and 5PM.
