PITTSBURGH, PA - It would be another night under the lights for Chatham Softball (10-18, 4-6 PAC) as they split in their conference match up with the Hiram Terriers (6-12, 5-3 PAC).
Game one would fall in favor of the Terriers as the Cougars fell 12-1 in just five innings. Freshman
Madi Gorney would be the only scoring offense for the Cougars as she smashed another home run in the bottom og the fifth inning. Other offense from the Cougars included senior
Chelsea Stabile going 2-for-2, sophomore
Riley Jones going 2-3 with a double, and sophomore
Hannah Uhrinek going 1-for-2 with a double as well.
Three different Cougars would enter the circle: seniors
Sheaden Berkson and
Victoria Murren and freshman
Caytlin Redeye. Murren would pitch for two innings giving up four hits while striking out three batters. Berkson would also pitch for two innings giving up no hits. Redeye would finish things off with just one inning of pitching in which she also gave up four hits.
Game two would prove to turn around for the Cougars as they would defeat the Terriers (6-3). While Hiram would score first in the top of the first inning, the Cougars would answer in the bottom and maintain the lead the rest of the game. It would start off a Gorney single allowing fellow freshman
Gaby McTavish to score and tie the game. Uhrinek would then step up to the plate and earn a single hit herself, bringing in Gorney and Murren to take the lead. The Cougars final runs would come in the third inning starting with Jones advancing to third on a throwing error and then scoring. Another error would then allow Murren and sophomore
Josie Underdonk to score the last two runs.
On the mound for the entirety of the game for the Cougars was Uhrinek who proved to be a key player in the game. She would allow just eight hits and three runs while striking out four batters.
The Cougars are back at West Field this Saturday, April 11th, where they will take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at 6PM and 8PM.
