PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 19, 2023 - Chatham Softball is just one week away from their first contests at the Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida. The team is slated to play brand new opponents including Moravian, Eastern, Alma, Cabrini, Dubuque, and Saint Mary's (MN).
"We have a strong spring training schedule and I truly believe our team is up for the challenge," said returning head coach Deanna Tritinger, who has a lot to be excited about this season.
"The team looks really good," said Coach Tritinger. "Some goals we have this year are to outscore our opponents, continue increasing our hitting stats, and of course to make the PAC Playoffs."
The Cougars' roster kept the bulk of its talent, including graduate student Paige Shaftic and seniors Kaitlyn Collins, Lauren Haak, and Justine Boyle. The four are also this year's captains.
Also returning to the Cougars' talent force are sophomore Isabelle Griswold and Mackenzie Dunn after an All-PAC First Team performance in her sophomore season. A new player to the squad is Victoria Murren, who is expected to make an immediate impact.
Chatham Softball finished their 2022 season at 6-12 in conference and 12-22 overall, falling just short of a PAC Tournament berth.
The Cougars first take on Moravian, then Neumann, in a 9/11:30 AM double header at the Diamondplex in Winter Haven, Florida on Sunday, February 26. Upon returning to Pittsburgh, the Cougars will host Mount Aloysius in their home opener on March 8. PAC play begins Saturday, March 25th at home against Saint Vincent.
