Seven School Records Set at CMU

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – April 14, 2022 – The Chatham University track and field teams had impressive performances, especially in the distance events in the Cougars' second time heading down the road to Carnegie Mellon.
 
First-year Aurielle Brunner continued her stellar start to her track and field career. She took home gold in the high jump with a 1.60-meter jump. Brunner also combined for a first-place finish and a new school record in the 4x400 meter relay at 4:18.82 with junior Tresa Coon, first-year Kendall Sirignano, and basketball teammate Sierra McClain. Brunner was second in the long jump at 5.24 meters and the triple jump at 11.10 meters, only trailing jumpers from Division I Robert Morris.
 
Individually, Coon and Erwin led the sprinting events, both in second place. Coon was narrowly edged out in the 800-meter run at 2:25.20, only behind another individual from Division I Robert Morris, setting a school record. Erwin was in a similar situation, finishing second in the 3,000-meter run at 11:10.77.
 
Elsewhere, first-year Kendall Sirignano had a third-place finish and led her heat in the 400-meter dash with a 1:04.42 final time, squeaking out the podium finish by .02 seconds and setting the school record. Other top five finishes include senior Alexia Page-Boyd's fourth-placed 39.06-meter toss in the discus and senior Rebecca Pennington in the 3,000-meter run at 11:45.18, good for fifth. Junior Violeta Kenzevich also was fifth in the javelin at 26.86 meters and broke the school shot put record with an 11.03 mark.
 
For the men, first-year John Matics won the two-person race in the 1500-meter run with a 4:22.37 final time. In the javelin throw, sophomore Brent Clutter dominated the field with a 48.69-meter heave, a new school record. Clutter was followed closely behind by junior Justin DeSabato with a third-placed finish of 42.56 meters.
 
Other top-five finishes for the men include seniors Brett Seich and Parker Laughlin finishing in fourth at 2:04.70 and fifth at 2:05.78, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Seich's mark was another school record. First-year Benjamin Brown led the Cougars in the 3,000-meter run at 10:39.42.
 
Chatham's final tune-up prior to the PAC Championship takes place on Wednesday, April 20 with a meet at Bethany.
