Four Cougars Break Program Records at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – March 19, 2022 – Chatham outdoor track and field successfully kicked off the 2022 campaign in record-breaking fashion in the WVU Stan Romanoski Open at Mylan Park Saturday afternoon. Four Cougars broke the records in five different events, two by each of the genders.

For the women, first-year Aurielle Brunner blasted onto the scene by setting the high jump and triple jump records at 1.52 meters and 11.17 meters, respectively, breaking her head coach Eden Bloom's record in the latter category. Brunner finished seventh in the high jump and first in the triple jump. Graduate transfer Alexia Page-Boyd improved her own discus record to 39.79 meters, earning a podium finish at third.
 
For the men, sophomore Brent Clutter shattered the program's shotput record at 11.60 meters, breaking it by nearly two full meters and claiming the top distance among all competitors. First-year Benjamin Brown also broke the 1500-meter steeplechase record with a 5:40.84 final time, good for fifth in the field.
 
Other top five finishes for the women include sophomore Violeta Kenzevich finishing fourth in the shot put with a 10.67-meter heave, and Brunner in the 100-meter dash after gliding to a 13.34 final time.
 
For the men, Clutter led all PAC competitors and took home second in the javelin with a 49.63-meter showing. Clutter led his flight in the shot put at 11.60 meters, a seventh-place score, and the 100-meter dash at 12.08. Senior Brett Seich led his section of the 400-meter dash at 55.86.
 
Track and field is back in action this coming weekend with a trip just a couple miles down the road with a meet hosted by Carnegie Mellon on Friday March 25, which concludes the following day.
