Cougars Sweep Mavericks

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – SEPTEMBER 17th, 2017 – The Chatham Cougars defeated the Medaille Mavericks 5-0.

How it happened
  • Senior Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) started things off for the Cougars with a goal at less than four minutes into the game.   
  • Junior Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison) passed the ball across the box to sophomore Tina Lett (Fredricksburg, Va./Courtland) for the second goal of the game.
  • Early in the second half, Lett would assist first year Darby Robinson (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) on her third goal of the season.
  • Robinson scored just seven minutes later off of a cross from sophomore Victoria Vernail (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley).
  • At 72:37, junior Anne Radzanowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) stole a goal kick and went one on one with the goalie for the final goal of the game.
  • The Cougars outshot the Mavericks 39-1.
  • Vernail led the team in shots with six.
  • First Year Genna Zeswitz (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) tabbed five shots, while Bruening and Radzanowski each tallied four shots.
 
In the goal
  • First Year Ashley Bergman (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) started for the Cougars.
  • Sophomore Elayna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) went in with 20 minutes left in the first half and would start the second half.
  • First Year Sydney Edwards (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mars) was in the net for the final 20 minutes.
  • None of the goalies needed to make a single save thanks to Chatham's strong defense.

Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five new men's sports in the 2015-2016 academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
