PITTSBURGH, PA. - Tommorrow the Chatham Women's Soccer team will head up North in their first match of the 2025 season.
The Cougars finished last season with a 3-5-2 conference record and an 8-9-2 overall, just falling short of the PAC Championship Tournament.
They were predicted to finish seventh in the conference this year, but that isn't going to stop them from fighting their way through the conference this year. "We are always looking to put ourselves in a place where we are competing in playoffs and fighting to extend our season as far as we can every year," said Coach
Betsy Warren.
Warren, entering her 14th season with the Cougars, is the longest serving and winningest coach in Chatham program history. In order to succeed, Warren know just how valuable the preseason is for success, "We have had a great preseason, our new players are fitting right in and we have really come together quickly as a collective unit. Having two scrimmages really helped us find our footing. We are starting fresh and are focused on one game at a time this season."
With the addition of only 2 first year players this season, the Cougars' returning players know the work and effort it will take to make it to post-season play. "We had a great spring as a team and with 22 experienced returners, we have picked right back up from where we left off in April. This group has some pretty lofty goals and have put in the work on and off of the field to prepare and put themselves in a great place to reach those goals."
Three Cougars made it on the PAC Players to Watch list this season: seniors
Ainsley Smith and
Halle Marsalis, and sophomore
Sarah Vescio. All three have previously earned spots on All-PAC teams last season. Smith was a 2024 Second Team All-PAC player while Marsalis and Vescio were Honorable Mention All-PAC last year as well.
The Cougars open their season this Saturday, August 30th at 1PM when they hit the road to face off with the Alfred University Saxons.
