Cougars Split with Tomcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. – APRIL 12th, 2017 – The Chatham Cougars split with Thiel winning the first game 5-3 and falling the second 11-1.

The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (5-20, 1-7 PAC) Thiel (10-14, 5-3 PAC)
  • Location: Emsworth Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.  
 
Game 1
  • Thiel would earn the first run of the day in the third inning.
  • Chatham would answer back with four runs of their own in that same inning.
  • Brianna Clark double down the left field line to send Samantha Crilley home.
  • Madison Howell hit Chatham's first homerun of the season sending Marissa Wightman and Clark home.
  • The Cougars defense was playing strong with two double plays.
  • Marissa Wightman would hit the second homerun of the season in the fifth inning to score the final run for the team.
  • Clark, Wightman, Howell, Kassandra Deane, and Crilley each tabbed a hit in the game.
  • Howell led the way with three RBIs.
  • Wightman earned two runs.
  • Howell pitched all seven innings only allowing three runs.
 
Game 2
  • Chatham fell to Thiel 11-1 in five innings.
  • Clark would score the only run for the game off of a single by Howell.  
  • The Tomcats got off to a quick lead in the first inning and the Cougars were unable to recover.
  • Howell recorded two hits.
  • Clark and Wightman each had one hit.
  • Crilley pitched 3.1 innings striking out one before Howell came in and pitched the final 1.2 innings.

  • The Cougars travel to W&J on Thursday for another PAC doubleheader.

Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and offers nine Division III women's sports and seven men's sports. Women's sports at Chatham include basketball, cross country, ice hockey, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track & field, and volleyball. Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five men's sports competing this academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
