Chatham Takes Down Medaille

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa - SEPTEMBER 13th, 2016 – The Chatham Cougars conquered the Medaille Mavericks with a final score of 4-2.

The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (3-1-1 overall) Medaille (0-5 overall)
  • Location: Varsity Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.  

How it happened
  • No surprise here, Chatham again dominated their opponents outshooting them 36-10.
  • The first goal of the game was scored by Sophomore Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison). This is Bruening's first goal of the season.
  • Sophomore Katelyn Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) scored with a header off of a corner kick from Junior Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) for the Cougars second goal.
  • Megan Sieg then scored her own goal later in the half with an assist from Bruening.
  • Sophomore Kassianna Politis (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) scored the only Cougar second half goal with an assist from Sophomore goalkeeper Emmory Tardivo (Isabella, Pa./Brownsville Area).
  • Chatham's aggressive play earned them 11 corner kicks.  
  • Leading the Cougars in shots was Megan Sieg with six.
  • Bruening and First Year Emily Nolan (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) each chipped in five shots.

In the goal
  • First Year Elayna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) started for the Cougars and played the entire first half recording two saves. Burdelski and the Cougar defense held the Mavericks to just three shots the first half.
  • Tardivo took over for Chatham at halftime. She recorded three saves and was credited with an assist.

Up next
  • On September 17th Chatham travels to Steubenville, Ohio to take on the Franciscan University Barons at 1 pm.

Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five new men's sports in the 2015-2016 academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
