Cougars Swept By Bison; 13-2, 6-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 6th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Softball team hosted PAC oppnonent Bethany College yesterday in a two game double-header up on Varsity Field. The Cougars were defeated by the Bison in both games by scores of 13-2 and 6-1. Chatham now falls to a 2-15 overall record (0-4 in conference), while Bethany improves to a record of 9-13 overall (3-1 in conference).

The Cougars were defeated in game one yesterday by a score of 13-2 after just five innings of play. In the top of the first inning Bethany jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, however Chatham got one run back in the bottom of the first when First Year Kylee Sonson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) hit a solo home run over the left field wall. This would be the only run Chatham scored until the bottom of the fifth inning when once again Kylee Sonson doubled to left field driving in her second RBI of the game. Bethany would score 13 runs on 14 hits, while Chatham scored only 2 runs on 7 hits in the game.

The second game of yesterday's double-header started just 25 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Each team went scoreless in the first inning, but Bethany would put two runs on the board in the top of the second inning. Chatham would earn a run back in the bottom of the second inning when Sophomore Lyndsey Gallaway (Wooster, Ohio / Wooster) singled to right field driving in a run. This would be the only time Chatham would come across home plate for the game. Bethany would score one run in the top of the third, two runs in the top of the sixth, and then a final insurance run in the top of the seventh. Chatham would only have 3 hits in the game, while Bethany managed to have 11.

Chatham will resume play this Saturday, April 9th, when they welcome the Titans from Westminster College to Varsity Field. The first game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
