Cougars Fall To Yellow Jackets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Chatham University sophomore Kasandra Petersen went a combined two-of-four for the weekend as the Cougars (2-13, 0-2 PAC) were unable to score against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (10-12, 2-0 PAC) in a conference double header. Scores for the games were 7-0 and 2-0.

The Cougars were able to keep the Yellow Jackets from scoring by only allowing two hits in the first two innings. It was in the bottom of the third that Waynesburg finally scored. After that, Chatham, while unable to do much on offense, was able to hold their own on defense and not let the Yellow Jackets score again until the bottom of the fifth. Unfortunately, a few Cougar errors helped Waynesburg increase their lead to 6-0. Waynesburg's final run would come in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore Samantha Crilley would pitch 6 innings striking out four Yellow Jackets and only walking one player. First Year Kylee Sonson would pitch a single inning for the Cougars. Kaitlin Sonson, Lyndsey Gallaway and Kasandra Petersen would all collect a hit in the first game.

Sophomore Kasandra Petersen would be the only Cougar to get a hit in the second game. Chatham this time held the Yellow Jackets to only two runs. Senior Leigha Pehrson would pitch 5 innings and earn four strikeouts. First Year Kylee Sonson pitched one inning this game as well.

Freshman pitcher Courtney Messenger from Waynesburg stole the show as she took a perfect game into the sixth inning. She wound up allowing just one single and not walking a batter, while piling up 11 strikeouts to end the second game.

Chatham University will host the Bethany College Bison (7-13, 1-1 PAC) in a PAC double header this Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
