Chatham Softball Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - APRIL 28th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Softball team welcomed the Golden Tornadoes from Geneva College to Varsity Field yesterday afternoon in a 2 game double-header. This would be the final two home games of the season for the Chatham Softball team. The Cougars would recognize three terrific Seniors yesterday in what was Senior Day.

Before the first pitch was thrown out yesterday, Chatham would recognize Senior Pitcher/First Baseman Leigha Pehrson (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mt. Pleasant), Senior Right Fielder Dalal Ghanem (Pittsburgh, Pa.  / Woodland Hills), and Senior Left Fielder Katrina Hawkins (Powell River, BC / Brooks Secondary School). All three seniors have had a solid season for the Cougars.

In the first game of the day, Chatham would score first in the bottom of the first inning,  when Sophomore Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn. / Benilde - St. Margaret's) drove in First Year Shortstop Samantha Crilley (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley). Geneva would counter in the top of the third inning by scoring two runs of their own. The next two innings both teams would be solid on defense, and the score would be 2-1 heading into the top of the 6th. Geneva would put 8 runs on the board in the top of the 6th inning, and take a 10-1 lead. Chatham would not be able to earn a run in the bottom half of the sixth, and would lose game one by a score of 10-1. In the game, First Year Samantha Crilley would go 2 for 3 at the plate with one hit being a triple.

In the second game of the double-header. Geneva would throw a run up on the board in the top of the first inning. In the top of the third Geneva would score two more runs, but Chatham would answer back with one run of their own when Sophomore Kasandra Petersen would drive in Samantha Crilley. Each team would score one run a piece in the fourth inning, and the score would be 4-2 heading into the 5th inning of play. Geneva's bats would be too much for the Cougars in the next two innings, and would score 3 runs in the 5th and 6th inning. Chatham would be defeated by a final score of 10-2. First Year Samantha Crilley would shine for the Cougars in game two going 3 for 3 at the plate with another triple. On the day Crilley would go an impressive 5 for 6 at the plate with two triples, and two runs scored.

Chatham is now 2-27 overall this season, and 0-16 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with just two more games to play. Chatham will travel to Grove City College on Saturday, April 30th to take on the Wolverines beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
