Cougars Softball Battles Bearcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - APRIL 25th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Softball team traveled to Latrobe, Pennsylvania this past Saturday afternoon to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats in a two game double-header. The Bearcats would sweep the Cougars by scores of 11-1 and 10-0. Chatham is now 2-23 overall this season, and 0-12 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

The first pitch on Saturday was thrown out right around 1:00 P.M. Chatham would go scoreless in the top half of the first inning, but the Bearcats would put three runs up on the scoreboard. Chatham would be able to score one run in the top half of the second inning when Sophomore Rachel Oplinger (Indian Head, Pa. / Connellsville) singled to center field driving in Senior Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant). Saint Vincent would answer back with two more runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning, and then add six more in the bottom half of the fourth. Chatham would only have six hits in the game, and would be defeated 11-1 in the first game.

The second game of the double-header on Saturday began around 3:00 P.M. The Saint Vincent bats were alive early, and the Bearcats would score four runs in the first inning. Saint Vincent would score five more in the third, and one more in the fourth. Chatham would only be able to manage threee hits in the game, and would be shutout by a score of 10-0.

The Chatham Cougars have a busy week ahead of them, playing six games in just four days. Chatham will travel to Greenville, Pa., on April 26th to take on the Thiel Tomcats for their first two games this week. Chatham will then host the Golden Tornadoes from Geneva College on Wednesday, April 27th in what will be the final home games of the season for Chatham. It will also be Senior Day on Wednesday where Chatham will honor Katrina Hawkins, Dalal Ghanem, and Leigha Pehrson. Chatham will then conclude the 2016 season when they travel to Grove City on Saturday, April 30th.
