Chatham Falls Twice Versus Carlow; 10-0, 10-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - MARCH 28th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Softball team hosted their first two homes games of the 2016 season yesterday as they welcomed Penn State Beaver to Varsity Field. The Cougars still hoping to earn their first win of the season would drop both games to Penn State Beaver by scores of 10-0 and 10-2.

The first game would begin at 3:00 p.m, yesterday afternoon as Sophomore Pitcher Samantha Crilley (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley) took the mound for Chatham. After two innings of play both teams would be tied at zero. The Carlow bats however came alive in the top of the third inning, and the Celtics would put 6 runs on the board. Carlow would follow up those 6 runs, by adding 4 more in the top of the fourth inning, extending their lead to 10-0. Chatham would not be able to edge into the 10-run lead, and would lose the first game 10-0 in just five innings of play. Chatham would only be able to manage six hits in the game, two of which came from First Year Infielder Adrianna Martin (Apollo, Pa. / Apollo Ridge).

The second game of the double-header would begin just 25 minutes after the conclusion of the first game due to the rainy and cold conditions. Senior Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) would start as the pitcher for the Cougars. Chatham would jump out to an early lead in the 2nd inning by scoring two runs. First Year Katelyn Gonos (Kent, Ohio. / Theodore Roosevelt) would double driving in two runs. Carlow however would answer back in the bottom half of the second inning by scoring one run. Carlow would then score 9 runs over the next three innings, and win by a final score of 10-2. Carlow would have 17 hits in the game to Chatham's seven. Leigha Pehrson and Katelyn Gonos would each have two hits in the game.

The Chatham University Softball team (0-11,0-0) will waste no time in getting back on the field, as they host the Barons from Franciscan University (0-16) today in a double header beginning at 3:00 p.m.
