Chatham Softball Drops Both VS. Penn State Beaver

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BEAVER, Pa - March 24th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Softball team traveled to Beaver County yesterday afternoon to take on Penn State Beaver in a double header. The Cougars still looking to earn their first win of the season, fell to Penn State Beaver in both games by scores of 7-2 and 4-2.

The first game began at 3:00 yesterday afternoon, and the Cougars jumped out to an early lead scoring one run in the top of the first inning. The Penn State Beaver bats however would come alive in the bottom of the third inning, and would rally to score five runs. Chatham would then lead off the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run by Sophomore Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret's), making the score 5-2 in favor of Penn State Beaver. However, from there on out Penn State Beaver would take control of the game, tacking on two more runs in the sixth inning, and would end up winning the first game by a score of 7-2. Senior Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) would end the first game with 2 hits of her own, and have 1 RBI. First Year Katelyn Gonos (Kent, Ohio / Theodore Roosevelt) would go 2-3 at the plate, with one of her hits being a double.

The second game of the double header yesterday started around 5:00 p.m. Chatham would come out immediately and score two runs in the top half of the first inning, but Beaver would get one run back in the bottom half of the first. Chatham's offense however would not be able to produce any more runs after that, and Penn State Beaver would rally in the fourth inning, scoring three runs, and would win by a final score of 4-2. Senior Leigha Pehrson would have three hits in the game, and score one of the two runs.

The Chatham University Softball team will have the weekend off, but will return to the field on Monday, March 28th when they host the Celtics from Carlow University in a double header beginning at 3:00 p.m. up on Varsity Field. This will be the first time the Cougars play home this season.
