Last year it was defeats of 2-0 and 2-1, but after 10 consecutive loses over the last five seasons, the Chatham Cougars (6-7-0, 2-5-0 ECAC West) finally upended the Oswego State Lakers (7-3-2, 5-2-2 ECAC West) by a final score of 3-0.
The scoring started in the first period with 13:09 remaining when senior forward
Katrina Hawkins scored her third goal of the season when assisted by junior forward
McKenzie Haskins (3
rd) and freshman forward
Michelle Jones (2
nd).
With the goal, Hawkins recorded her 21st career goal breaking Leah McNaughton career goal mark or 20 and tied McNaughton as the all-time career point scorer with 38.
Later in the first, with 1:49 remaining, the Cougars notched their second of the game, this one on the power play, when freshman defenseman
Jillian Rowland tallied her second goal of the season and was assisted by Haskins (4
th).
After a scoreless second period, the Cougars upped the lead to 3-0 when junior defenseman
Kaitlyn Perrins scored her second goal of the season when assisted by senior forward
Erika Bronk (5
th) and Hawkins (2
nd).
Hawkins's assist on the Perrins goal now gives her the all-time lead in career points.
To top off the excellent night, sophomore goalie
Sydney Isbell put together her first career shutout stopping 23 of 23 shots by the Lakers.
After one of the biggest wins for the program, Chatham looks to complete the sweep of the Lakers tomorrow at 3 pm from the Alpha Ice Complex.
