Chatham Travels to Westminster for PAC Match up

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 New Wilmington, PA - The Chatham softball team traveled to Westminster College (PA) in New Wilmington, PA to face the Westminster College Titans in a Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheader.  Westminster took the first game by a close margin of 6-4 and the second 15-0.

In the first game, Westminster scored early, with all six runs coming in the first three innings.  However, Chatham put Westminster's defense to the test late in the game.  In the seventh inning Chatham scored four runs, but could not quite catch up to the Titans lead.  The offensive torrent started with a Deckelman double, who was quickly batted in by Petersen.  Shortly after, a Brittany Yoisten (Coldwater, ON; OF/3B) single batted in first year Rachel Oplinger (Connellsville, PA; C) and Yoisten stole to second on an error by the Titans' first baseman.  First year Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, NY; OF/3B) then hit a single into right field on which Petersen and Yoisten both scored, and the game ended with Janiga left on base on an Erika Bronk (Fairport, NY; OF) ground out the Westminster pitcher.

Westminster kicked off the second game with a pair of runs in the first inning, and continued to score with one run in second inning, and scored eleven runs in the third inning to win the game by mercy rule with a score of 15-0.  While Chatham was not hit-less, they could not manage to score.  First year Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, MN; 2B), seniors Elizabeth Deckelman (Baltimore, MD; SS/P) and Gina Abrego (Edina, MN; 3B) reached bases, but to no avail.

The Cougars ended the doubleheader in an aggressive rush, and look to keep the pressure on in their next games at PAC foe Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA.  Chatham will play a doubleheader against the Presidents, with games starting at 3:30pm and 5:30pm next Wednesday, April 8.
