Chatham Celebrates Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pittsburgh, Pa. – (4/25/2015) – The Chatham University softball team squared off against Waynesburg University today, nearly ending their season with a win. The Cougars would lose both games of the doubleheader, 7-0 and 6-5. Chatham finished the season with a mark of 3-23, and a 2-10 record at home this year.
 
Senior Pitcher/Shortstop Elizabeth Deckelman (Baltimore, MD) went one for three in game one, while first year catcher Rachel Oplinger went one for four. Senior outfielder Brittany Yoisten (Coldwater, ON) went one for three as well for the Cougars.
 
Chatham fought hard in game two, with standout play coming from Deckelman, who went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. First year Pitcher/First baseman Lyndsey Gallaway (Wooster, OH) who went one for three, with a run and one RBI, and first year Outfielder Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, NY) also kept Chatham alive, going two for three with an RBI.
 
Yoisten earned a triple in game two, while Gallaway, Deckelman, and first year Second Basemen Kassandra Petersen (Faribault, MN) all earned doubles for Chatham.
 
Pehrson pitched hard in both games, giving up 13 runs on 20 hits. She walked nine and struck out eight after facing 35 batters in game 1 and 38 batters in game 2. Pehrson pitched 14 innings in all between both games.
 
Four seniors, Yoisten, Deckelman, Pehrson, and Abrego were honored before the game for all of their accomplishments during their time at Chatham. Congratulations to the seniors and to the Cougars for an exciting season of softball.

Chatham will add six new men's sports in the 2015-2016 academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field, and volleyball.
