Chatham Hosts Doubleheader vs. Thiel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pittsburgh, Pa. – (4/1/2015) – The Chatham University softball team took Varsity Field today for two games against PAC rival Thiel College. The Cougars played tough but lost both games against the Tomcats, 8-0 and 4-2. The Cougars are 3-9 on the season and 2-4 at home so far.
 
The Cougars had a tough go in game one, and were unable to score a run. Chatham did find their bats in game two however, with three Cougars hitting doubles. Senior pitcher/shortstop Elizabeth Deckelman (Baltimore, MD) recorded 2, senior pitcher Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, Pa) recorded 1, as did first year catcher Rachel Oplinger.
 
First year second basemen Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, MN) hit a triple in the bottom of the second, with Chatham up 2-0. She was called out at home plate when senior outfielder Brittany Yoisten (Coldwater, ON) grounded out to third base, and first year outfielder Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, ON) grounded out to the Tomcat pitcher.
 
Senior pitcher/shortstop Elizabeth Deckelman (Baltimore, MD) went 2 for 3 in game two with 1 run, senior pitcher Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, Pa) went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's, and Oplinger went 1 for 3. Senior third basemen Gina Abrego also went 1 for 3 in game 2 recoding 1 run for Chatham.
 
Pehrson gave her all in both games, giving up 12 runs on 19 hits. She walked three and struck out eight after facing 41 batters in game 1 and 31 batters in game 2. Pehrson pitched 14 innings in all between both games.
 
Chatham will continue PAC play, when they visit Westminster College Thursday, April 2, 2015 for two games against the Titans. The games will be played at 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
