Box Score 2 Steubenville, OH. – (3/24/2015) – The Chatham University softball team traveled to Steubenville, OH on Tuesday to play a double header against Franciscan University in a non-conference matchup. The Cougars split the doubleheader with the Barons, with Chatham winning the first game 5-4, and the Barons taking the second game by a score of 7-6.
The Cougars are steadily improving on their offense, with more and more players reaching base each game. Six Cougars earned doubles, including senior
Elizabeth Deckelman (Baltimore, MD; SS/P), senior
Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, PA; P), first year
Lyndsey Gallaway (Wooster, OH; 1B/P), senior
Gina Abrego (Edina, MN; 3B), and first year
Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, NY; OF/3B).
The Cougars played well in both games; Pehrson pitched a total of 14 innings and went 2 for 3 at the plate in the second game and striking out 11 batters. Third baseman Abrego filled in for an injured
Rachel Oplinger (Connellsville, PA; C) during the second game, and recorded 7 putouts at the plate, adding to her previous putouts at third base for nine on the day. Also notable was Gallaway with 20 putouts through two games at first base.
Junior
Erika Bronk (Fairport, NY; CF) went three for seven on the day, going 2 for 3 at bat in the first game. Bronk also earned two RBI's for Chatham. First year
Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, ON; OF) went one for three at bat, and earned three runs for the Cougars.
Chatham will begin PAC play when they visit Bethany College on Saturday, March 28, 2015 for a doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
