Box Score 2 Pittsburgh, Pa . – (3/22/2015) – Offense was on display today when the Chatham University softball team took Varsity Field for a doubleheader against Penn State Beaver. The Cougars won both games against the Lions, 12-3 and 17-3. The wins raises Chatham's record to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 at home.
The Cougars scored early and often in game one, when first year Second baseman
Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, MN) hit a triple and three Cougars hit doubles. Senior third baseman
Gina Abrego , first year Pitcher/First baseman
Lyndsey Gallaway, and first year catcher
Rachel Oplinger all had multiple hits on the day, as the Cougars routed the Lions in game one.
Game two was more of the same, seeing Chatham score twelve runs in the first inning alone. Senior Pitcher
Leigha Pehrson (Mt. Pleasant, Pa) hit a triple, while Oplinger recorded her second double against Penn State Beaver. Abrego went two for three with two RBI's. Senior Pitcher/Shortstop
Elizabeth Deckelman (Baltimore, MD) went one for three with two RBI's as well. Pehrson recorded five putouts and Oplinger snagged four in the second game of the day.
Pehrson was tough on the mound as well, only giving up eight hits and three runs in her seven innings pitched between both games. Pehrson also walked four batters and struck out nine. Deckelman pitched three innings, walking two batters and struck out two. Deckelman gave up three runs on three hits on the day.
Chatham will face Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio on Tuesday March 24, 2015. Game times for the doubleheader are 3:30pm and 5:30 pm.
