Box Score Pittsburgh, Pa – (2/13/2015) – The Chatham University hockey team skated to an overtime victory tonight, at home against SUNY Potsdam. The Cougars scored a power-play goal late in the third period to force OT. Chatham then scored their second power-play goal of the game to seal the win. The Cougars are 5-3-1 at home this season.
After a scoreless first period, SUNY Potsdam would go up 1-0 early in the second. Junior forward
Katrina Hawkins (Powell River, BC) would tie the game unassisted at (11:28). The Bears would take a 2-1 lead deep into the third period, when junior forward
Erika Bronk (Fairport, NY) tied the game on a power-play goal at (17:12) forcing overtime. Bronk was assisted by sophomore forward
Erika Martin (Fairbanks, AK).
On their second power play late into overtime, sophomore forward
Jenny Jones (Kernersville, NC) found the back of the Bears net at (04:19). Hawkins and first year forward
Cassidy Colhoun (Kincordine, ON) assisted on the goal.
Chatham took 31 shots on goal today, with Martin leading the team with 8. Bronk recorded 6 against the Bears, while Hawkins had 4.
Jones went an impressive 13 for 16 on face-offs, Martin helped the team going 11 for 17, and Hawkins won both face-offs she took for the team.
Senior goaltender
Megan Buchanan (Stittsville, ON) was a wall between the pipes, stopping 26 of 28 shots through regulation time. Buchanan also fended off two SUNY shots on goal in OT. The Cougars power play units were electric, going 2 for 6.
Chatham will be back in action for a rematch against SUNY Potsdam in continued ECAC-West play on Saturday February 14, 2015 for a 1:00 p.m. puck drop.
