Cougars Beat William Smith 6-2

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. - DECEMBER 6, 2015 -- After a 3-0 defeat yesterday and falling behind in the first period 2-0 today, Chatham (3-5-0, 1-5-0 ECAC West) would not let William Smith (3-5-2, 1-5-2 ECAC West) complete the sweep and scored six unanswered goals in the final two periods to win 6-2.

William Smith was the beneficiary of two rebound goals in front of sophomore goaltender Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn.) in the first period and went into the locker room leading the Cougars 2-0.

However, for Chatham, it was an offensive onslaught over the final two periods when it got things started with 15:54 remaining when sophomore forward Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardine, ONT) notched her second goal of the season assisted by junior forward Erika Martin (Fairbanks, Ala.). This is Martin's second assist of the season.

Not even four minutes later, senior forward Katrina Hawkins (Powell River, BC) netted her first goal of her senior campaign to tie the game at two when she was assisted by junior defenseman Kaitlyn Perrins (Calgary, ALB). This was the third assist of the season for Perrins.

Colhoun would find the net for a second time in the second period for her third of the season on the power-play giving Chatham a 3-2 lead when she was assisted by junior forward Jenny Jones (Kernersville, N.C.) and senior forward/defenseman Erika Bronk (Fairport, N.Y.).

Chatham would match what it did in the second period and it started just 30 seconds into the period when Hawkins scored her second of the night and second of the season on the power-play when she was assisted by Martin (second assist of the night and third of the season) and first year defenseman Jillian Rowland (St. Louis, Mo.). This was Rowland's third assist of the season.

Roughly 12 minutes later, junior defenseman Karlee Kaufman (Mars, Pa.) ripped a shot from the blue line for her second career goal to give Chatham a 5-2 lead and was assisted by junior forward McKenzie Haskins (Anchorage, Ala.) for her second assist of the season.

Chatham would score its sixth and final goal under a minute later when first year forward Kirajean Frost (Harvard, Mass.) scored her second of the season when assisted by Erika Bronk (second assist of the night and second of the season).

Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn.) continued success in goal stopping 23 of 25 shots faced to improve her overall record to 3-2 on the season.

The Cougars controlled the matchup outshooting the Herons 39-25 and outdueling them in the faceoff circle 36-21.

Chatham will now get nearly a month off as it will not touch the ice in game action again until January 2 when it travels to Owings Mills, Md. to face off against Stevenson. Puck drop for that day is scheduled for 5:15 pm.
