Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA - In a game that saw 14 ties and 10 lead changes, Westminster College outlasted Chatham University 61-54 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match-up on Saturday. The Titans' seven point margin of victory was the largest lead by either team for the game.
A 9-0 run by Chatham (2-9 overall, 1-3 PAC), capped by six straight points by
Emily Schmidt, gave the Cougars a 16-10 lead at the 11:33 mark of the first half. Chatham once again held a six point lead with 6:13 to play, but Westminster (4-6 overall, 1-2 PAC) went on a 9-2 run to take a 27-26 lead.
Kayla Saylor drained a jumper at the buzzer, however, to tie the game at 31 heading into halftime.
The second half was just as even as the first, as neither team took more than a two point lead until the 6:36 mark, when Schmidt connected on one of two free throws to give Chatham a 51-48 advantage. Westminster took a 54-52 lead with 3:09 to play on a Gabby Holko three pointer, and ended the game on a 13-3 spurt to pull out the victory.
Schmidt led all scorers with 22 points on 9-12 shooting. She also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Jessica Manfredi scored seven, while
Chelsea Kovalcsik scored five and had seven rebounds.
Anna Shashura led the team with four assists and
Rachel McClain had four steals.
For the Titans, Holko scored 17 and Courtney Zitt tallied 16. Allison Borts had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Each team connected on 22 field goals for the contest. Chatham shot slightly better from the floor (37.3%) than did Westminster (32.8%). Westminster shot 12-15 (80.0%) from the free throw line, while Chatham shot 8-16 (50.0%).
Chatham returns to PAC action on Wednesday, January 8, when they travel to Grove City College for a 7:00pm tip-off.
