Potsdam Defeats Chatham 4-3 in Overtime

Box Score POTSDAM, NY – SUNY Potsdam scored with 30 seconds left in the third period to force overtime, and eventually won in the extra frame, 4-3 over Chatham University on Saturday. Chatham falls to 3-12-2 overall and 2-8-0 in the ECAC-West. Potsdam moves to 9-6-3 overall and 5-3-3 in the conference.

Casey Morfeld gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 6:10 mark of the first period. Potsdam tied the game six minutes later with a goal from Amanda Peterson.

After the Bears took a 2-1 lead early in the second period, Chatham scored a pair of goals just 27 seconds apart to gain a 3-2 lead. Katrina Hawkins scored the tying goal, with an assist from Brittany Yoisten. Brianna Rice then scored, as Kaitlyn Perrins and Jenny Jones recorded the assists.

That 3-2 lead held until late in the third period, when Jordan Ott scored for Potsdam, as the Bears had pulled their goaltender. Just 31 seconds into overtime, Ott struck again, finding the back of the net to give the Bears the 4-3 victory.

Hawkins and Morfeld each recorded four shots for Chatham. McKenzie Haskins tallied three. In net, Megan Buchanan made 47 saves. Potsdam out-shot Chatham 51-19 for the game. Both teams were 0-2 on their power play.

Chatham travels to conference foe Neumann University next weekend for games on Friday and Saturday.
