Jenny Jones and
Erika Martin each scored power play goals, but the Chatham University Ice Hockey team fell to visiting Utica College on Sunday, 3-2. The eleventh-ranked Pioneers won each game this weekend by just one goal.
Morgan Reed scored first for Utica (11-3-0, 6-2-0 ECAC-West) at the 8:25 mark of the first period. In the second period, Jones scored off an assist from
Morgan Becer, and Martin scored with assists from
Katrina Hawkins and
Kaitlyn Perrins to give Chatham (3-10-2, 2-6-0 ECAC-West) a 2-1 lead.
With under two minutes to play in the second period, Utica's Megan Myers found the back of the net to tie the game at two. The game-winner came just 34 seconds into the third period, when Vanessa Maines scored a power play goal.
Chatham went 2-5 on their power play, while Utica went 1-5. The Pioneers out-shot Chatham for the game 44-16.
Hawkins led Chatham with three shots.
Madison Alphin,
Casey Morfeld, Jones, and Martin each recorded two shots.
Megan Buchanan faced 44 shots, making 41 saves.
Chatham continues conference play next weekend, January 24-25, when they travel to SUNY Potsdam.
