Bethany Outlasts Chatham, 70-56

Box Score BETHANY, WV – Four Chatham players scored in double figures, but the Cougars fell to Bethany College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Wednesday, 70-56.  Chatham falls to 2-12 overall and 1-6 in the PAC.  Bethany moves to 4-10 overall (3-4 PAC).
 
Rachel McClain led Chatham with 13 points, while Jesse Hinkle tallied a career-high 12 points on 5-6 shooting.  Emily Schmidt and Jessica Manfredi each netted 10 points.  For the 12th time in 14 games this season, Hinkle led the squad in rebounds as she had seven in the game.
 
Bethany also had four players score in double figures, led by Lauren Simpson's 16.  Taylor Verrico netted 14, Gabrielle Naples scored 13, and Mikyla Tipton tallied 10.
 
Chatham took an early 9-4 lead, but Bethany tied the game at 14 with 12:31 remaining in the first half.  A 16-0 run that lasted 8:08 put Bethany up 25-14, and they went into halftime with a 36-22 lead.
 
Two McClain free throws with 9:42 left to play in the second half capped an 11-2 Chatham run and brought the Cougars within five at 45-40.  Bethany responded, though, with a 9-0 spurt to go back up by 14, sealing the game.
 
Bethany converted on 22-52 (42.3%) attempts from the floor, while the Cougars shot 21-57 (36.8%).  Chatham shot well (9-11) from the free throw line, but the Bison held a huge advantage from the charity stripe, going 23-31.
 
Chatham continues PAC play on Saturday, January 18, when they travel to Waynesburg University.  Tipoff is set for 1:30pm.
