Box Score CANTON, NY –
Katrina Hawkins scored her fourth goal in two games, but the Chatham University ice hockey team fell 2-1 to SUNY Canton on Saturday. The Cougars split with the Kangaroos this weekend, winning 6-0 last night. Chatham is now 3-8-2 overall, while Canton moves to 5-10-2.
Hawkins scored a power play goal at the 12:25 mark of the first period to give Chatham a 1-0 lead.
Erika Martin and
Erika Bronk recorded assists on the goal. Canton's Bernadette O'Connell tied the game at one with just under four minutes remaining in the first period.
Midway through the second period, Canton's Karlee Cree tallied a power play goal to take a 2-1 lead, which would hold for the remainder of the game.
Megan Buchanan had another strong game in net, saving 21 of Canton's 23 shots. For the weekend, Buchanan made 44 saves on 46 shots.
Hawkins and Martin each tallied four shots for the Cougars.
McKenzie Haskins and
Casey Morfeld each had three. Canton edged Chatham in shots 23-22. Neither team was efficient on power plays, as Canton went 1-6 and Chatham went 1-9.
Chatham returns to ECAC-West action next weekend, when they host Utica College on Saturday and Sunday. Game times are at 8:00pm on Saturday and 1:00pm on Sunday.
