Box Score WAYNESBURG, PA – Emily Schmidt scored 11 points on 5-11 shooting, but the Chatham University Basketball team closed their 2012-2013 season with a 77-40 loss at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg University on Saturday.  Rachel McClain chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals for Chatham (3-22, 2-16 PAC), while Marguerite Sargent scored eight and dished out two assists.
 
Anna Shashura added six points and Chelsea Kovalcsik grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
 
For Waynesburg (13-12, 12-6 PAC), a trio of players scored in double figures, led by Gina Rievel with 13.  Lauren Blair tallied 11 and Brittany Spencer recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Yellow Jackets raced out to a quick 13-2 lead in the first four minutes of the contest, aided by six early Chatham turnovers.  For the game, Chatham committed 30 turnovers, while Waynesburg turned the ball over 15 times.  Chatham regrouped, though, and went on an 8-2 run to close the deficit to five (15-10) with just under 11 minutes to play in the opening half.
 
A Schmidt layup with 8:53 on the clock kept the game close at 19-14, but Chatham's offense then went into a slump.  For the remainder of the half, the Cougars managed just one more field goal, another Schmidt layup at the 5:15 mark.  Over the final eight minutes, Waynesburg out-scored Chatham 21-2 to enter halftime with a 40-16 advantage.
 
The Yellow Jackets remained hot to start the second half, scoring the first eight points to take a 48-16 lead.  Chatham quickly cut that deficit to 25 points, but could not get any closer.
 
Three pointers were a big part of Waynesburg's offensive success, as they shot 8-16 (50.0%) from behind the arc.  Chatham connected on just 1-8 (12.5%) attempts from three point range.  The Yellow Jackets' bench out-scored Chatham's reserves 41-14.
