Box Score LATROBE, PA – A 17-0 run midway through the second half propelled Saint Vincent College to an 87-69 victory over Chatham University in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener for both schools. Chatham is now 1-6 overall (0-1 PAC) while the Bearcats improve to 3-2 (1-0 PAC).
Rachel McClain led all scorers with 19 points, including four three pointers.
Emily Schmidt tallied 14 and
Jessica Manfredi added 11.
Jesse Hinkle led the Cougars with 13 rebounds and
Chelsea Kovalcsik had nine. McClain had a team-high seven assists.
Saint Vincent was led by Elle Collins who scored 16 points. Taylor Mathers scored 12 and Mara Benvenuti added 10.
Chatham jumped out to an early 9-4 lead, but Saint Vincent tied the game at 11 with 13:59 remaining in the first half. After a
Becky Rowe trey that put Chatham up one, SVC went on a 13-1 run to take a 26-15 advantage. Chatham responded, though, with a 21-11 spurt of their own to cut the deficit to one with 2:20 on the clock.
With 13:28 remaining in the second half, SVC held a slim 59-47 lead, but then went on a 17-0 run to go up by 29. A
Dana Eastman three stopped the run at the 8:32 mark.
The Cougars made eight three pointers, while SVC connected on four. Chatham shot (22-61) 36.1% from the floor and out-rebounded SVC 50-46. The Cougars recorded assists on 18 of their 22 field goals.
Chatham continues PAC play on Saturday, December 7 when they host Geneva College at 2:00pm.
