Cougars Shut Out Buffalo State for First Win

Box Score BUFFALO, NY – Brianna Rice scored her second and third goals of the season, leading the Chatham University Ice Hockey team to a convincing 3-0 victory over Buffalo State University in the Cougars' ECAC-West opener.  Chatham is now 1-1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the ECAC-West.  This was Buffalo State's first game of the season.
 
The 3-0 win marks the first shutout against an NCAA program since a 2-0 win over Oswego on January 23, 2010.
 
Rice got the scoring started 1:23 into the second period, as she found the net off a Jenny Jones assist.  With 2:50 remaining in the period, Rice scored on a power play goal with assists from Erika Bronk and Madison Alphin.  Bronk then scored her first goal of the season at the 4:18 mark of the third period to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage.
 
Tara Treloar, making her second collegiate start in net, saved all 23 shots she faced.  Rice led Chatham with eight shots, while Casey Morfeld tallied six and Bronk had five.  Chatham out-shot Buffalo State 40-23 for the game.  Ten players recorded at least two shots for the Cougars.
 
These two teams play again tomorrow, November 9, at 2:00pm in Buffalo.
