Chatham Falls to Bethany 77-58

Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA – Bethany College scored 62 points in the paint, leading them to a 77-58 victory over Chatham University in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Wednesday. The Bison improve to 5-9 overall (3-4 PAC). Chatham falls to 2-11 overall (1-6 PAC).

Carly Zelenak (Jr., Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant) scored a season-high 19 points for Chatham, shooting 7-13 from the floor. She also led the Cougars with seven rebounds. Elizabeth Lewis (Jr., Marysville, OH/Marysville) scored nine points. Becky Rowe (So., Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) and Kayla Saylor (So., Pittsburgh, PA/Northgate) each dished out three assists.

For Bethany, Kayla Taormina eclipsed the 1,000 point plateau for her career, scoring nine points. Brianna Nuzum led the Bison with 14 points, while Taylor Verrico and Mikyla Tipton each tallied 13.

After Bethany jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead, Chatham went on a 19-8 run to take a 23-20 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the first half. Bethany ended the half, though on a 14-6 spurt to go into halftime with a 34-29 lead.

A 14-2 Bethany run midway through the second half put the Bison up 18, 52-34, with 12:39 to play. Chatham responded by closing the deficit to nine, but Bethany then reeled off an 18-2 run to seal the victory.

Chatham shot 18-24 (75.0%) from the free throw line, while Bethany made just four of seven attempts. The Cougars drained four three pointers. Bethany shot 1-11 from beyond the arc but shot 35-62 (56.4%) from two point territory. Bethany held a 28-0 advantage in fast break points.

Chatham will host Waynesburg University on Saturday, January 12 in a PAC matchup. Game time is set for 2:00pm.
