Late Slump Dooms Chatham in 54-44 Loss to Grove City

Box Score GROVE CITY, PA – The Chatham University Basketball team fell to 3-17 overall and 2-11 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play following a 54-44 loss at Grove City College on Wednesday. The Wolverines improve to 7-10 overall (6-7 PAC).

Carly Zelenak (Jr., Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant) led the Cougars with 15 points and seven rebounds. She shot 6-12 from the floor and 2-3 from three point territory. Emily Schmidt (So., Eighty Four, PA/Ringgold) tallied eight points, while Marguerite Sargent (Sr., Washington, PA/Washington) scored five points and dished out a team-high three assists.

Leah Gibson led Grove City with 22 points on 8-13 shooting.

After an evenly played start to the game, a 12-5 Chatham run gave the Cougars a 17-14 lead with 8:51 remaining in the first half. Chatham extended their lead to 11 following a Zelenak layup with just over a minute to play, and went into halftime with a 29-20 lead.

Grove City began the second half on a 12-4 run to pull within one with 14:26 on the second half clock, but Chatham maintained their lead. With 7:39 remaining, the Cougars held a 44-41 advantage, but missed their final 12 shots as GCC ended the game on a 13-0 run.

Chatham forced 14 Wolverine turnovers while committing just 10 themselves. Chatham drained four three pointers. Grove City made one.

Chatham will continue PAC play on Saturday, February 2, when they host Westminster College at 2:00pm.
