Oswego State Defeats Chatham 6-1

OSWEGO, NY - Morgan Becer (Jr., Ligonier, PA/Team Pittsburgh) scored her second goal of the season, but the Chatham University Ice Hockey team fell to Oswego State 6-1 on Saturday. The Cougars fall to 2-7-1 overall, and 0-5-0 in ECAC-West play. Oswego improves to 5-4-1 overall (5-2-0 ECAC-West).

Becer scored with 6:03 left in the first period to give Chatham a 1-0 advantage. She was assisted on the play by Abby Maier (Sr., Cottage Grove, WI/Team Wisconsin) and Gina Abrego (So., Edina, MN/The Blake School). Oswego State responded by scoring two goals in each period to seal the 6-1 victory. Six different players scored goals for the Lakers.

Maike Blakely (Jr., Kearney, NE/Williston Northampton School), Katrina Hawkins (Fy, Powell River, BC/North Island Extreme), and Marie Soukup (Fy, Lake Bluff, IL/Team Illinois U19) each recorded two shots for the Cougars. In goal, Megan Buchanan (So., Ottawa, ONT/Rideau St. Lawrence) played most of the game, saving 24 of 29 Oswego shots. Kaitlynn Smith (Jr., Hamden, CT/Hamden HS) played the final 7:24 of the contest, surrendering one goal on two Oswego shots.

The Lakers out-shot Chatham 31-11 for the game. Each squad went 0-3 on their power play. The two teams take the ice again tomorrow, December 2 at 3:00pm.
