PITTSBURGH, Pa. - On Thursday, the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released the postseason yearly awards for the Men's Lacrosse season. Earlier this season, the PAC released their PAC All-Tournament Team. The Cougars had 12 different players recognized on at least one list after a record breaking season for the Cougars.
Cougars junior midfielder,
Jacob Lubawy was named to the All-PAC 1st Team and the PAC All-Tournament Team. This was the third time Lubawy has been named to an All-PAC team as he was a 2nd Team player in both 2023 and 2024. This season, Lubawy had a matching 28 goals and assists. That put him third on the Cougars in points scored with 56. He also had 25 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. In the PAC Tournament, Lubawy scored five goals and assisted on two more. He also grabbed two ground balls in the two postseason games.
Cougars sophomore defender,
Jesse Corser-James lit up the stat sheet in his first season as a Cougar. He assisted on one goal this season, but he shined defensively where he set a new program single season record in caused turnovers with 36 and he also grabbed 67 ground balls.
Cougars senior attack,
Ethan Rinker was named All-PAC 2nd Team, for the first time in his career. Rinker has been recognized as Honorable Mention twice, 2022 and 2023. He was also named to the PAC All-Tournament Team. This season, Rinker scored 52 goals and assisted on 15 for 67 total points, second on the Cougars. He also grabbed 48 ground balls and caused 10 turnovers. He scored five of those goals in the Cougars two postseason games while grabbing four ground balls and causing one turnover.
Cougars sophomore attack,
Tanner Marsh was named to the All-PAC 2nd Team for the first time in his career. As a first year in 2024, Marsh was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player. This season, Marsh scored 40 goals and assisted on 28 for a team high 68 points. He also grabbed 25 ground balls.
Cougars first year attack,
Liam Rooney was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player. Rooney scored 18 goals and assisted on 11 more for a season total of 29 points. He also grabbed 23 ground balls and caused eight turnovers.
Cougars junior attack,
Thomas Whitaker was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player after he scored 28 goals and assisted on seven for a 35 point season. He also had 12 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Cougars graduate defender,
Ryan Buchanan was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player after he grabbed 39 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers. Buchanan also assisted on one goal.
Cougars senior defender,
Thomas Curtin was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player for the second time in his career. He was previously named Honorable Mention in 2023 and was a 2nd Team All-PAC player in 2024. This season, Curtin scored two goals and assisted on one for a season total of three points. He also had 22 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers in his final season as a Cougar.
Cougars junior defender,
Ethan Joshi was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player. Joshi scored one goal and assisted on five more for a season total of six points. He also grabbed 47 ground balls and caused 32 turnovers.
Cougars sophomore face off specialist,
Cody Randal was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player. Randal scored three goals and assisted on three more for a season total of six points. He also grabbed 128 ground balls while winning 215 face offs. Randal had a 58.1% win rate on face offs for the Cougars.
Cougars graduate midfielder,
Isaac Joshi was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC player. Joshi recorded four goals and four assists for a season tally of eight points. He also grabbed 27 ground balls.
Cougars senior goalie
Zen Smith was named to the PAC All-Tournament team after the Cougars PAC Championship game run. Smith ended the season with 121 saves and a 52.2% save rate. In the Cougars two postseason games, Smith made 35 saves and had a 54.7% save rate.
The Cougars men's lacrosse team also left their mark in the all time record book, as they made history in many ways and also had multiple players reach important career milestones.
The Cougars set single season records in both overall wins and conference wins. The Cougars had 13 wins overall and seven in conference. The Cougars had won nine games in both 2019 and 2024 which were the previous season highs. The seven conference wins almost doubled the previous four wins, done four times most recently in 2024. The Cougars ended the season with a 68.4% win percentage, setting a new season record. The previous record was 56.3% set in 2019. The Cougars had a win streak of seven games during the season breaking the previous record of four done across the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The Cougars also set a new record for consecutive home wins with five. The streak is still active at the end of the season. This broke a two way tie of four games most recently done in 2021. The Cougars also recorded their first playoff win in program history.
The Cougars also set single game records in goals, assists and points. The Cougars broke the previous goals in a game record twice this season. It was 26 goals, which was done three times in program history, most recently vs Thiel on April 24th, 2024. The Cougars scored 28 goals in their conference opener against W&J on March 29th. Later in the season, the Cougars scored 34 in their win over Franciscan on April 23rd. In the W&J game the Cougars recorded 24 assists, breaking the previous record of 20 which had been done twice in program history, most recently against Thiel on April 24th, 2024. In the W&J game and the Franciscan game the Cougars recorded 52 total points. That set a new single game record, previously 46 done twice, most recently the 2024 Thiel game.
The records did not end with single game records, the Cougars set multiple single season team records. The Cougars broke four season records from 2019. They scored 287 goals, had 79 assists, 466 total points and had 781 ground balls. In 2019 the Cougars recorded 235 goals, 162 assists, 397 points and 719 ground balls. The Cougars also set a single season record in caused turnovers with 250 breaking the record from 2024 where they caused 170 turnovers. The Cougars led the PAC in both ground balls and caused turnovers per game.
There were also five Cougars players who broke individual records this season and one additional player reached a career milestone.
Tanner Marsh in his sophomore season broke the 100 point mark while setting or tying multiple single game records. Marsh, in the Cougars win against Hood College, recorded six assists and 10 total points. That broke the single game assist record and tied the single game points record. Marsh tied teammate
Thomas Whitaker with 10 points and broke a record held by four current and former Cougars who all had five assists in a game.
Cody Randal had a record breaking game in the Cougars win at Thiel where he recorded 25 face off wins and 19 ground balls. He tied Alec Vissotki with 25 face off wins and broke Vissotki's ground ball record of 18. Randal also recorded his 100th ground ball this season.
Ethan Rinker set multiple records in his senior campaign. He scored a new program high 52 goals this season, breaking Kyle Rullan's record of 49 from 2019. He also ended the season with 115 career goals which is a new program record as well, breaking a record held by Adam Bleess who finished his career in 2022. Rinker also broke Bleess's career points record of 146. Rinker ends his career with 152 total points. During this season, Rinker recorded his 100th point and goal.
Jesse Corser-James, after transferring in after his first season, made his presence felt defensively as he broke the Cougars single season caused turnovers record. Corser-James had 36, breaking the record held by Ben Neal from the 2021 season.Â
Jacob Lubawy, after his junior season, is now the career leader in assists as he has assisted on 76 goals in his three seasons. That breaks the previous career record of 52 held by Tyler Hayes who finished his career in 2021. Lubawy also recorded his 100th point and 100th ground ball this season.
Zen Smith ends his career as the Cougars all time leader in career saves and wins as a goalie. Smith made 429 saves in his career and recorded 20 wins. Both of the records he broke were held by Shane Gaglione who finished his career in 2022. Gaglione had 404 saves and 14 wins. Smith recorded his 400th save this season.
Devin Traister, one of the Cougars two main face off specialists, recorded his 100th career ground ball in his sophomore season.Â
