PITTSBURGH – Chatham Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Kevin McDonough has resigned from the program, Chatham Vice President of Athletics and Recreation
Leonard Trevino announced Sunday afternoon.
"I've decided to resign as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach to pursue opportunities outside of coaching," McDonough shared. "I'd like to thank
Leonard Trevino for taking a chance on me five years ago to become this program's second head coach. It has been an unbelievable journey being the head coach here. Thank you to every player, alumni and family that has been a part of Chatham Lacrosse; your commitment and sacrifice has been extremely humbling. This past year was the most memorable year of my playing or coaching career, and I know that the success of this year's team is just the beginning for Chatham Lacrosse. I'll always be the #1 fan of Chatham Lacrosse, and I look forward to following the future successes of each player, each alum and the program."
McDonough leaves Chatham as the winningest coach in the program's short history. In five seasons with the program, McDonough, who was the second head coach in the team's history, accumulated a 40-40 overall record and a 22-13 conference record.
"Losing Kevin a big loss for our university, athletic program and lacrosse team," Trevino said. "The team just completed their best season in school history and advanced to the conference finals. In addition to his outstanding qualities as a coach, Kevin supported and mentored his players off the field both academically and in their personal lives. He was an outstanding role model. Assistant Coach
Jacob Sivley will serve as the interim head coach, and we will begin a national wide search immediately with goal of continuing the trajectory of the program."
This past season, McDonough guided Chatham to its most wins in a season, its first playoff victory and its first PAC Final appearance. Over the last two seasons, only Grove City had more wins than Chatham among PAC schools.
Chatham will immediately begin a nationwide search for a new head coach.
