Box Score 2 LATROBE, Pa. - Softball got PAC play started today with a short trip down route 30 to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats. They were defeated in both games, with a score of 11-3 in game one and 9-1 in game two.
In game one, things were scoreless thru two innings. The Bearcats got on the board with two runs with a two-run single to center. The Cougars proceeded to answer in the top of the fourth with two runs of their own to tie the game. Sophomore
Irene Martin hit her second homerun of the season to left center and Grad
Savanna Ahlborn singled to center that scored Sophomore
Victoria Murren. Saint Vincent would then score a run in the fourth and fifth inning to extend their lead to 4-2. A Freshman
Mia Peticca single to center in the sixth would get the Cougars within one but a seven run sixth inning for the Bearcats would make it a 11-3 final due to mercy rule.
The Cougars collected nine hits overall, two came from
Savanna Ahlborn,
Irene Martin, and
Mia Peticca. Martin's blast in the fourth was her second of the season.
Victoria Murren lasted 5.2 innings and had eight strikeouts.
In game two, the Bearcats got the lead first once again, when they scored a run in the first two innings to lead 2-0. The Cougars faced Bearcats pitcher Olivia Bushore, who threw six scoreless innings with her lone run given up being unearned. Bushore also had seven strikeouts. Saint Vincent got two more across in the fourth to extend their lead to 4-0 thru four innings. The Bearcats had a big sixth inning just like they did in game one when they scored five runs to end the game with a final of 9-1.
The Cougars had six errors and scattered three hits. Two of those hits coming from
Savanna Ahlborn who was 2-3 with the lone run scored. Ahlborn finished 4-6 on the day with a run scored and an RBI.
The Cougars will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they will host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at 6:30 & 8:30 PM at West Field in Munhall, PA.
