PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 22, 2023 - Chatham Women's Lacrosse fell 9-8 to the visiting Franciscan Barons on Senior Day Saturday at UPMC Graham Field. The Cougars are now 8-4 on the year and 4-3 in PAC play.
It was a low-scoring first quarter, as each offense tallied only two goals. Franciscan scored twice to lead 2-0, but Chatham responded with goals from senior attacker
Selena Justus and sophomore midfielder
Erin Goodwin to tie the game.
In the second quarter, the Cougars got a goal from junior midfielder
Sam Beall-Dennell and two more from Goodwin to go into halftime tied at 5.
Goodwin scored again in the third quarter to give Chatham a 7-6 lead, but the two teams ended the period again tied at 7.
Both teams showed strong defense and goaltending until the end, but it was the Barons who edged out the narrow victory.
Goodwin had five goals to lead the game. Justus ended the day with a goal and two assists.
Beall-Dennell had 8 draw controls, bringing her season total to 90 to set a new program single-season record. The previous record was 87 draw controls by Kerry Carr in 2019.
Shots on goal were 24-23 in favor of Franciscan.
Women's Lacrosse returns to action Wednesday on the road against Westminster.
