PITTSBURGH, Pa. - March 18, 2023 - Chatham Women's Lacrosse fell in its home opener by the score of 11-9 against the Marietta Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the first of the season for the Cougars, as they fall to 3-1.
Chatham got on the board with the first goal of the game after senior attacker
Phallon Kilduff converted on a free-position attempt, but Marietta scored the next three goals. A tally from senior attacker
Selena Justus cut the lead to 3-2 with 3:09 left in the first quarter, but the Pioneers would regain the two-goal lead before the end of the period.

Stephanie Walter and
Sam Beall-Dennell in the second quarter made the game 5-4 in favor of Marietta, but the Pioneers again answered to take a 7-4 lead into halftime. The Cougars won the third quarter 4-2 thanks to another goal each from Kilduff and Justus and went into the final frame down 9-8. However, Chatham were unable to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter.
Justus and Kilduff each scored two goals on the day to led the team. Beall-Dennell had 11 ground balls and 11 draw controls to go along with a goal and an assist. Sophomore defender
Josie Barton led the team with four caused turnovers and had three groundballs. Sophomore
Samantha Barrett made 14 saves in net on 25 shots faced.
Chatham led in shots on goal 27-25, but committed 19 turnovers to Marietta's 13.
Women's Lacrosse is back at UPMC Graham Field on Tuesday night with a matchup against Bard College.
