Cougars Take a Tumble on the Road Losing to Juniata 23-7 in Season Opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Feb. 26, 2020 - Chatham (0-0, 0-0) opened the 2020 lacrosse season on the road as they traveled to take on Juniata (0-0, 0-0) on Wednesday, February 26th. The Cougars finished the 2019 campaign with a 5-9 overall record and a 2-5 conference record.

The Cougars started the game off slow, trailing 7-0 after the first ten minutes of the game. Their struggles continued further into the half, as they were unable to find the back of the net until 11:37 left in the half. Although Chatham tacked on three more goals before halftime, they continued to trail Juniata 13-4 at the break. Sophomore Brielle Rapsas scored two of the Cougars four goals in the first thirty minutes of play.

Juniata continued to dominate in the second half, adding seven more goals to their total to take a 20-5 lead over Chatham. The Cougars added three more goals before ultimately falling to Juniata 23-7 for their first loss of the season.

First year Selena Justus and Rapsas both led Chatham with two goals apiece, while sophomore Kristin MacConnell and first year Aria Dietrich picked up four ground balls each.

Chatham is back in action on Saturday, March 7th as they travel to take on Delaware Valley in a non-conference matchup.
