Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, PA – April 14, 2018 – The Chatham University softball team honored its two seniors on Saturday –
Samantha Crilley (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) – but the Cougars fell to visiting Bethany 2-0 and 3-1 (10 innings) at West Field in PAC action.
RECORDS: Chatham drops to 3-19 (1-9 PAC) while the Bison move to .500 at 12-12 (5-5 PAC).
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars will travel to Grove City on Monday, April 16 before hosting Westminster on Wednesday, April 18.
GAME ONE (Bethany 2, Chatham 0)
AT THE PLATE: The Cougars managed just three hits as Petersen, first-year
Caitlin Worwood (Caldwell, Idaho/Caldwell) and first-year
Alexis Gonzalez (Riverside, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) all collected base knocks.
IN THE CIRCLE: Sophomore
Madison Howell (Huntington, W.V./Huntington) earned the start and suffered the defeat, going 2 1/3 innings with three punch outs.
First-year
Julie Swedberg (San Bruno, Calif./Capuchino) threw the final 4 2/3 frames in relief, fanning four Bison.
GAME TWO (Bethany 3, Chatham 1 – 10 innings)
AT THE PLATE: In the extra-inning affair, Chatham registered six hits as sophomore
Marissa Wightman (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) went 2-for-4 with a double.
Petersen, Gonzalez, Woorwood and first-year
Paige Shaftic (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) tallied base hits.
IN THE CIRCLE: Swedberg went the distance of all 10 frames, striking out three and walking just one batter.
