Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, PA - March 31, 2018 – The Chatham University softball team dropped a DH to visiting Thomas More on Saturday at West Field in the team's home and PAC opener, falling to the Saints 4-2 in game one before losing 3-0 (8 innings) in the nightcap.
RECORDS: Chatham drops to 2-12 (0-2 PAC) while Thomas More improves to 9-9 (2-0 PAC).
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars remain home to host Saint Vincent in PAC action on Thursday, April 5 at 6:30 pm.
GAME ONE (Thomas More 4, Chatham 2)
AT THE PLATE: First-year utility/pitcher
Julie Swedberg (San Bruno, Calif./Capuchino) finished 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI and sophomore pitcher/infielder
Madison Howell (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) chipped in Chatham's second hit.
Sophomore outfielder
Marissa Wightman (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) tallied one RBI for the Cougars as Chatham plated both runs in the bottom of the sixth.
IN THE CIRCLE: Howell suffered the defeat despite tossing all seven frames, striking out three Saints.
GAME TWO (Thomas More 3, Chatham 0 - 8 innings)
AT THE PLATE: Senior infielder
Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) went 2-for-3 while Wightman and sophomore outfielder
Tess Weaver (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) added the other Cougar base knocks.
IN THE CIRCLE: Swedberg hurled 7 2/3 innings, striking out five. Howell pitched 1/3 of an inning, earning one strikeout.
